EMAIL and TELEPHONE FRAUD/SCAM

Please be aware of the following scam/fraud (Click the title for details).  This scam is a fairly common one that is cropping up once more.  The scam involves using the name of faculty or staff that are easily available on our website to both email and telephone either the person they are trying to scam or others associated with that person.  Below is an example of a string of emails that are commonly sent (read from bottom up for start to end).

I have removed the particular WSU person name, but you should be aware that an email address that looks very real was used along with the person’s full name.

Do not be taken in by these types of scams/fraud.  It is best to report it to abuse.wsu.edu and otherwise ignore, delete and never respond.

In order for you to receive the funds, take the payment to your bank or the ATM and have it DEPOSITED in your bank account and the funds will be available in 24 hours or the very next business day. Email me a copy of the Deposit Slip If you can and  make an ATM deposit if it happens that you didn't receive the funds on time from my bank  before your bank closes so that the funds can be available the next day to complete the assignment on time. The items list will be sent to me tomorrow and as soon as it arrives, I will forward it to you so you can start the purchase. When the money is available in your account, you will deduct your first week payment; $400 and use the rest to purchase the items and ship to the orphanage home. Kindly get the business check paper today and attach the purchase receipt to me.
