Position summary: 

Washington State University Vancouver is seeking a Recreation Coordinator who will provide leadership and overall management, development and administration of recreation programming and initiatives, including outdoor recreation trips, on/off campus intramurals, rental program, fitness classes and facility management.

Responsible for the implementation of and adherence to University policies, and internal policies and procedures for the overall safety and security of facility and equipment users, program participants, etc.

Responsible for supervision of 15-20 student staff, interns and hourly employees performing daily operation of recreation rentals, fitness center, recreation trips and intramural programming.

Develop and manage several recreation program operating and one-time budgets. Responsible for fiscal decisions related to recreation operating and facilities budgets.

Collaborate with Office of Student Involvement staff to create holistic and comprehensive involvement program and strategic plan for the campus. Support an equitable institutional culture through development of programs involving diverse student populations.

Minimum requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Business, Recreation, Sport Management, Higher Education or related field) and three (3) years of experience directly related to the specialty area to include a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements:

Must have or be able to obtain the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification and CPR/AED within six (6) months of hire.

Must have or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

Ability to travel, work evenings and weekends, including overnight trips.

Proficiency with word processing, database and spreadsheet software.

Preferred qualifications: 

Experience as a recreation and athletics specialist or other paid professional recreation experience.

Experience working with liability issues relative to recreation.

Experience working in recreation in a higher education setting.

Experience planning and leading overnight and extended outdoor recreation trips.

Experience with recreation/fitness equipment operations, maintenance and inventory control.

Experience working in a fitness center/gym environment.

Experience with organized individual and group sport teams.

Demonstrated experience collaboratively supporting an inclusive and diverse student population

Salary:
