Washington State University Vancouver is seeking an applicant for the position of Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate algebra/trigonometry-based and/or calculus-based physics courses during the 2018-2019 academic year. The fall semester starts on August 20th and ends December 7th. Content development is not required. Instructor will have access to existing course materials. Course descriptions for fall 2018 courses are as follows:
Physics 101: 101 [PSCI] General Physics 4 (3-3) Course Prerequisite: MATH 107 or 108 with a grade of C or better, a minimum ALEKS math placement score 75%, or passing MATH 140, 171, 202, or 206. Algebra/trigonometry-based physics; topics in mechanics, wave phenomena, temperature, and heat; oriented toward non-physical science majors.
Physics 201: 201 [PSCI] Physics for Scientists and Engineers I 4 (3-3) Course Prerequisite: MATH 171 with a C or better, MATH 172 or concurrent enrollment, MATH 182 or concurrent enrollment, MATH 273 or concurrent enrollment, or MATH 315 or concurrent enrollment. Calculus-based physics; topics in motion and dynamics of particles and rigid bodies, vibrations, wave phenomena, and the laws of thermodynamics. Credit not granted for more than one of PHYSICS 101, 201, or 205.
Physics 202: 202 [PSCI] Physics for Scientists and Engineers II 4 (3-3) Course Prerequisite: PHYSICS 201 with a C or better or PHYSICS 205 with a C or better; MATH 172 with a C or better or MATH 182 with a C or better. Calculus-based physics, topics in electricity, magnetism, electromagnetics, D/C and A/C circuits, optics, reflection, refraction, interference, diffraction, polarization
Compensation is based on terminal degree and paid on a credit hour basis, with additional money if lab supervision is required. Minimum per lecture credit: $1,497 (MS) or $1,568 (PhD). Minimum per lab contact hour: $898 (MS) or $941 (PhD). Actual compensation will be based on teaching assignment.
Candidates must possess, at least, M.S. in physics or related discipline.
Ph.D. in physics or related discipline, and experience in teaching undergraduate courses and labs at a college level.
