Carpooling

If you are looking for a carpool partner, Clark County's www.ClarkCommute.org is a newly updated resource designed to help you find a carpool or vanpool that works with your schedule. Simply follow the link above and click on the "Register Now" tab to begin. If you are new to this site, look for the green link that reads "Don't have an account? Click here to sign up" toward the top right-hand side of the page. Once you begin filling in your information, the system will walk you through signing up for carpool matches and even provides the option to link your account to your Facebook page for more control over your rideshare options! The newly designed web access begins June 1st, 2011 and, with gas prices rising rapidly, now is a great time to check out your carpool options!

The Washington State Rideshare Organization was established to encourage policy makers, employers and commuters to support the use of transportation alternatives to driving alone. Their goal is to reduce air pollution, traffic congestion, and energy consumption throughout Washington State and the Pacific Northwest.

Zipcar is a carsharing program, designed to be an alternative to both car ownership and car rental.

Cycling

Both Portland and Vancouver have extensive bike routes. To learn more or download maps, visit the City of Vancouver Bicycling website.

Additional information on cycling can be found by contacting the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.

Emergency Ride Home (ERH) Program

WSU Vancouver has joined Clark County’s ERH Program to assist our employees who choose a commute alternative such as carpooling, walking, bicycling, or riding the bus to work. If you usually get to work using a commute alternative, or if you’re considering it, your worries about getting home in case of an emergency are over! If an emergency comes up during working hours – the illness of a family member, unexpected overtime, or a carpool partner who becomes ill at work – you can use the ERH program to get home. It’s fast, easy, and free! The only requirement is that you used a commute alternative to get to work that day.

In the event of an emergency contact Parking Services at 6-9002 (parkingservices@vancouver.wsu.edu) to arrange for your ride home. For questions on the ERH program, contact Katrina Long at 6-9002 or katrina_long@vancouver.wsu.edu.
