Ethnicity / Race

WSU Vancouver’s student body reflects the changing demographics of the Pacific Northwest. Ethnic and racial minorities currently make up about 15% of our campus’ student population, and this proportion is expected to climb. For example, 22% of WSU Vancouver’s entering 2009 freshman class was made up of ethnic and racial minorities.

As our campus diversity has expanded, more clubs and activities have been organized on our campus that reflect our growing multicultural population: the Black Student Union, Students for Social and Environmental Justice, the Marquee Diversity Event, and the Diversity Council’s Diversity Film Festival are recent examples.

WSU Vancouver’s academic programs and researchers offer our students and the wider community a better understanding of the complexities and richness of living in a multicultural society. From WSU Vancouver’s Business School’s Emerging Business Initiative to the publication of the Clark County Equity Report by WSU Vancouver’s Center for Social and Environmental Justice to a variety of courses, many of our faculty are actively involved in addressing and analyzing issues centered social and cultural diversity.

The campus also works closely with the local community through programs such as Gear-up, MESA, MOSAIC, Noche de Familia, and Connections to develop a welcoming environment for future and new students of color and ethnic diversity at WSU Vancouver.
